Interesting AZ Topics

This page is dedicated to topics I find interesting, fun and/or useful. It's not meant to be a forum for discussion (you should join Offroad Passport for that), only to give you some quick information and where to go look for more. Enjoy!

Eye Contact with Mountain Lions

June 8, 2013

When confronted by a mountain lion, you should wave your arms and make loud noises. But what if that doesn't work? What if the mountain lion keeps coming at you? Click here to find out what one hiker did in this situation. And you can join the discussion on this subject at Offroad Passport.

Be careful on bike paths (and ATV trails)

May 14, 2013

It looks like someone is putting tacks on Tucson bike lanes near the access to Mt. Lemmon. This story reminded me of a time when a friend was injured when someone dug a hole in an ATV trail, then covered it in plywood and threw on some dirt. The ATV crashed into the hole. She was lucky to be only slightly injured. Be careful out there. People do stupid things. I wonder if the ones doing this have thought if someone died they would be brought up on murder charges? SPOT Rescue in the Wind River Mountain Range

August 2, 2012

A couple was rescued in the wilderness using the SPOT GPS messenger device. Since I do a lot of exploring on my own, I just bought a SPOT for myself. So far, it's worked well, though I haven't really flexed it's muscles yet. I will let you know what I think about it with a review shortly. If you want to read more about the rescue and SPOT, see the link below.

Coleman Insta-tent

July 3, 2012

I'm thinking about getting a new tent. Mine is about 10 years old and has a few holes in it. This tent looks awesome, especially if you're camping by yourself. Setting up my current 6 person tent by myself takes about 20-30 minutes.

This is a very cool website by a couple of Arizona wreck finders. You can find information anywhere from how to get to some historical crash sites to what to look for and how to find other crash sites. Great information and nice photos for anyone interested in aviation, history or exploring.
